Collection Vehicles

REAR LIFT VEHICLE

Rear Lift vehicles (also referred to as 'Rear Loaders') come in many different sizes, from small two-axle units with a 6m3 body for use in narrow alleys or parks and reserves, etc. to heavy three-and four-axle units with a 30m3 body and 25 tonne or more GVM for the collection of municipal and commercial and industrial wastes.

The rear lift collection system is appropriate for sites with limited vehicle access and storage space, customers who generate small quantities of waste and recyclables and customers who generate large volumes of recyclables that are separated into individual streams and stored at the source (source-separated) e.g., white paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, metals etc., for recycling. Rearlift containers require the least amount of capital investment.

VEHICLE OPERATION

The container is wheeled to the rear of the vehicle by the driver and mechanically lifted and emptied into the hopper of the compactor. A sweep and slide panel collects and forces the material inside the main compaction chamber where the material is compacted against the ejector blade. As more material is loaded into the compactor body, the ejector blade moves forwards towards the vehicle cabin until the body is full. The waste is then unloaded at the disposal facility using the ejector blade to push the material through the open tailgate.

VEHICLE DESIGN FEATURES

  • Water tight tailgate seal and leachate sump in the floor of the compactor body
  • Tailgate safety check valve and automatic tailgate lock
  • Bin lifter safety interlock
  • Tailgate props
  • Emergency stop to disable hydraulics
  • Colour reversing camera system, reverse lights and beeper
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Broom and shovel and emergency spill kit
  • Handwash
  • Toolbox
  • 4 and 6 point load cells for weighing of materials

FRONT LIFT VEHICLE

The front lift collection system is the most efficient solid waste collection system. Frontlift vehicles are three and four-axle units with a 25m3 or 31m3 body used mainly for the collection of commercial and industrial waste in 1.5m3 to 6m3 containers. Frontlift containers are suitable for customers who generate larger volumes of waste and recyclables and sites with adequate side and height clearance for the larger frontlift vehicle to access and load the container. The frontlift vehicle and containers require a higher level of capital investment compared to rearlift equipment.

VEHICLE OPERATION

The forks on the lifting arms are aligned with the sleeves or pockets on the side of the container by the Driver as the vehicle approaches the container. The forks are inserted into the pockets of the container and the container is lifted in an arc over the cabin of the vehicle and into the hopper at the top of the compactor body. The material is then compacted by the ejector blade forcing the material towards the rear tailgate of the compactor body. As more material is loaded into the compactor body, the ejector blade moves backwards towards the vehicle cabin until the body is full. The vehicle is unloaded by lifting the tailgate and activating the rearward-moving ejector panel.

VEHICLE DESIGN FEATURES

HOOK-LIFT VEHICLE

The Hook Lift system is a cost-effective and efficient system for the on-site storage and transportation of bulk waste. This system is best suited to commercial and industrial customers who generate large volumes of waste and have the space available to store containers on-site. Hooklift Containers are ideal for building sites, shopping centres, manufacturing, large multi-business complexes and hospitals that generate dense, bulky, non-compactable materials such as timber, wood, steel, concrete, bricks and soils. Hooklift Container sizes range from 4m3 to 40m3 capacities and are manufactured with heavy-duty steel. High volume waste generators can use stationary compaction on-site to further reduce transportation costs and service requirements.

COLLECTION OPERATION

The hooklift system uses a series of levers and hydraulic cylinders to raise the front end of a container, which rotates the container about a rotary slide located at the rear of the truck that carries the container. The hoist pushes the container rearwards until its lower edge (or rear rollers) rest on the ground. The weight of the container causes the truck to roll forward until it is free of the container. The hoist then sets the front end of the container on the ground. The hooklift system loads the container from the ground on to a truck in essentially the reverse manner.

VEHICLE DESIGN FEATURES

  • Hydraulic valves and lifting gear
  • Reversing lights and beepers

LIQUID VACUUM TANKER

Liquid vacuum tankers are designed for specific operating pressures up to 50 psi (3.45 bar). A liquid vacuum tanker loads (pumps) and unloads by reversing its vacuum pump through a four-way valve and manifold, which provides vacuum for loading or pumping and pressure for unloading.

TAUTLINER

Tautliner is a curtain sided truck. The curtains contain load retaining straps which, when released, allow the curtain to be pulled back and a forklift to be used for easy and efficient loading and unloading from the side of the vehicle. The tautliner can also be loaded using the tailgate lifter at the rear of the vehicle. Tautliner are used to transport packaged clinical and related wastes, biosecurity (quarantine) waste, confidential materials requiring destruction and chemicals and prescribed industrial (hazardous) wastes.

VANS

Vans are used for the collection of sanitary and nappy waste, small quantities of clinical and related materials and for the delivery and service of washroom hygiene products.
